Beth is a Senior Specialist in our Finance team. She's based in Leeds.
I’ve been at NewDay for over 3 years. In my current role, my team and I partner with both finance and the business to produce the strategic and financial monthly reporting packs which are presented to ManCo, our owners and the board.
We also do a lot of ad-hoc project work to support the business with its current and future strategies.
Last year, I became a mum for the first time. Balancing work and caring responsibilities has definitely been different. It sounds obvious, but you go from only needing to think about yourself to having to think about keeping a small human alive and happy too. My house is like a Zoo some (or let’s be honest, most!) mornings, but I am very lucky to have a great support network around me both at home and at work. This has made the transition a lot easier.
My team at NewDay have an amazing family first attitude and that has been invaluable to me since returning from leave. For our family, it’s all been about priorities, realizing that we actually can’t ‘have it all’ and if we’re not happy, making those small changes to ensure that we are. NewDay really supports a broad range of flexible family leave options. I know that there are a lot of Dads at NewDay who have taken advantage of shared parental leave.
Since becoming a mum, I'm becoming more grateful and present in the moments that we spend together. I’ve identified that there are steps I personally need to take to be the best version of myself; for example, taking time for myself, turning off my phone and getting outside more to soak up some Vitamin D.
I’ve got a way to go but I’m excited to see how much progress I can make.
The people leaders that I've had throughout my time at NewDay have gone over and above to ensure that I have been supported through such a big life change. Most importantly, they encouraged and pushed me in the right ways to ensure that I am following a career path that I am personally happy with at this point in my life.
