Over 400 Gifts From NewDay staff to go to Young Carers in Leeds and London in Family Action’s Toy Appeal

NewDay’s staff have come together to donate over 400 gifts to young carers in Leeds and London in Family Action’s Toy Appeal.

Young carers in Leeds will receive 255 gifts on Christmas Day, with young carers in London receiving 230. Additionally, NewDay’s colleagues donated £3600 (and growing) collectively to Family Action’s Just Giving page.

Family Action provides emotional and practical support to over 60,000 families across the country, all year round, and the charity’s Toy Appeal, part of the charity’s annual ‘Make Theirs Magic’ campaign, supports families facing financial difficulty at Christmas. Last year, the Toy Appeal ensured that over 10,000 children had a gift under the Christmas tree.

Research from the charity revealed that 1 in 7 (14%) parents/carers surveyed said they won’t be able to afford to buy presents for their children this Christmas due to financial constraints.

Family Action is aiming to gift even more toys to families, thanks to the support of partners including NewDay, to ensure that children have some magic this Christmas.

NewDay has been a long-term partner of Family Action and the Toy Appeal, and has rallied its staff to the cause through donations, Gingerbread House-making competitions and a Christmas bake sale.

Chief Commercial Officer, Ian Corfield said: “For eight years, we have supported Family Action, and this year, our focus is on young carers — individuals who, from as young as 5 or as mature as 24, selflessly dedicate themselves to caring for their parents or loved ones.

“Our colleagues have purchased and donated hundreds of items on Family Action’s gift list, providing toys and essentials to young carers, as well as donating thousands of pounds to Family Action’s Just Giving page.”

David Holmes CBE, Chief Executive of Family Action, said: “Every family deserves comfort and joy at Christmas, but with the high costs of food and utilities, many will find their holiday season stressful and difficult and it does seem, this year, that Christmas magic is in short supply.

“This is where organisations like NewDay come in and we want to thank all of their staff for their extremely generous donations. With their support, more families will have a special gift for their children and together, we can keep the magic of Christmas alive.”
